Why Most Retailers Don’t Offer Split Payments
When it comes time for consumers to check out, either online or in-store, many merchants don’t offer split payments. The reasons are numerous, from verification issues, restrictions on the merchants, technical obstacles, and more. However, the main reason is that it requires multiple authorizations from the card user. Some credit card processing companies may allow this, or may only allow split tender transactions. Brick-and-mortar stores are more likely to offer splitting payments, but they may be few and far between. Check with your processor to understand what your limits are before initiating a transaction that can get you in trouble.
